When you want features like pergolas or trelliswork you don't want it built as cheep as possible. To make outdoor woodwork last there are some rules and specifications that need to be followed. Exterior grade plywood is not actually suitable for use outside. Marine plywood or Fiberglass clad plywood is. When left in the elements regular plywood sheething lasts roughly 3-4 years, Marine ply should last 20. The difference is how it is made and what it is made up of. Different types of wood and glue will last differently when built into a pergola or trellis feature. Most of our pergolas and arbors are made of BC Red Cedar.
